Bush Discovers Bloggers, Gets them to do His Bidding
Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 5:41PM George W. Bush signed the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act into law today. One of the provisions of this bill is the creation of a website detailing who gets federal dollars. This bill was helped through the approval process partly by many members living at the end of the long tail. Bloggers and grass roots efforts contributed significantly to public knowledge and acceptance of this new bill and its goals.
OMB is considering not only posting this information on its sites, but also distributing the information to bloggers. Whether they will freely distribute to bloggers on the other side of the fence still remains to be seen. At a luncheon sponsored by IBM, OMB Director Rob Portman quoted Clay Johnson asking bloggers, "'Gee, if you're so good at this, can you help us with our other initiatives?"
