I'm a technologist at heart with a passion for emerging products and early stage companies.  Simple timing put me in the right place at the right time and gave me several opportunities to help shape the Internet during its formative years.  My education came via hands-on product development, a stint at NYU and side-by-side work with some of the most innovative minds in software.

    The Stupid Security Awards

Regardless of the outcome of the Privacy International 2006 Stupid Security Competition, I think its pretty clear the airlines and the bodies of government controlling them deserve an honorable mention.

In a never ending slew of idiotic events (iPod in Toliet, Drinks on a plane) that threaten the common sense of all travelers, the air lines and their security practices clearly take the cake. Now don't get me wrong, we do need to do something about security, but making it so painful to fly that no-one wants to travel is not the solution. How many millions of dollars must the worlds economies lose to stupid security practices before everyone excepts that we are losing this battle?
