I'm a technologist at heart with a passion for emerging products and early stage companies.  Simple timing put me in the right place at the right time and gave me several opportunities to help shape the Internet during its formative years.  My education came via hands-on product development, a stint at NYU and side-by-side work with some of the most innovative minds in software.

Microsoft Scrambles to Plug DRM Hole

A program called FairUse4WM (WM = Windows Media) has been seen making its way around the Internet. This program offers subscribers to Windows Media DRM protected files the ability to strip the DRM. Technologies offering "FairPlay" have long been the targets of hackers and computer geeks. When iTunes first released their DRM protected media, the "free media" community responded with Hymn which stripped the FairPlay DRM.

Micrsoft has already responded and on August 28th announced they expect to release a fix in the near term. This fix will patch the vulnerability in PlaysForSure, but no-one yet knows how. Microsoft is either going to push it down the pipes forcing it apon people, or offer it as (most likely a critical) Windows Update. Anybody notice a pattern here?
