The Nanny Tapes
Sometime in 2002 I was working for Anadarko Petroleum in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. At the time I had a great apartment in NYC that I would not give up, so I was commuting from NYC to Houston Monday to Friday. Basically I'd fly home on the weekends.
During that time I had the idea to buy Nanny a simple tape recorder with a microphone. The idea was to give her a medium to easily record all her stories and family history so we'd never lose them. She ended up recording a little over 100 minutes worth of audio in three sessions.
For a variety of reasons I just now managed to convert the audio tapes to MP3 files, the first recording links are below. Over the next few weeks I'll remaster the files, remove as much of the audio hiss and crackling as possible without degrading her voice, and repost the new versions.
